ABC College of English Internship Programme

The purpose of Internship Programme is to provide an entry-level portal into our organisation for potential employment and to provide learning and development opportunities. Our programs provide students with an opportunity to gain practical work experience and exposing them to the key aspects of English Language education business. It also provides experience in an English speaking work environment in a multi-cultural setting.

Our internship programmes offer a 24 week placement, with the possibility of extension. Interns are also offered opportunities to attend professional development seminars as part of their internship experience, and may provide housing or housing assistance if needed.

Job Title: Intern – Administration/IT/Reception & Marketing Support

Organisational Setting and Reporting: This internship is located in Queenstown, New Zealand at ABC College of English Ltd

•The internship is for an initial period of six months, with the possibility of extension.
•The internship is at the minimum wage
•Interns work full-time: 5-7 hours per day (25 hours minimum), five days per week (Monday-Fri- day).

Overview of the position:

The Position of Intern – Marketing and Administration at ABC College of English is a support position designed to give the intern exposure to a working knowledge of the marketing operations and related administration of the College in co-operation with the College Principal & Director.

The Intern is expected to be reliable, enthusiastic, innovative and motivated. He/She is expect-ed to collaborate with all staff and help deliver the highest standards of excellence in all areas.

Marketing:

  • Translation of marketing promotional material
  • Participate in creation of marketing collateral to promote the college to international students
  • Management of the distribution of brochures and mail outs to local and offshore agents when required.
  • Assist in the management of agent database
  • Assist in the research of international market trends
  • Assist in the maintenance and development of social media

General Administration:

  • Assisting in the update of database entries for students, home stays and agents.
  • Helping to keep the premises tidy and clean.
  • Weekly mail and banking.
  • Weekly Statistics

Reception:

• Greeting any visitors to the College in a friendly, welcoming and helpful manner.

• Responding to day-to-day enquiries from current students in a friendly, helpful manner.

Communication and Professionalism

  • All students and staff are treated with respect.

Education:

Applicants to the ABC College of English internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

(a) Have a second language other than English
(b) Have an intermediate or above level of English Language proficiency;
(c) Show that the internship is part of their career aspirations;
(d) Be computer literate in standard software applications. Have a demonstrated an interest in the edu- cation sector;
(e) Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience

•Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the internship programme. However, experience in learning or teaching English as a Second or Foreign Language is an advantage.

•Applicants 
should be familiar with file hosting services (such as Dropbox) and Mac computers.

•Applicants should have a demonstrated ability to successfully work and interact in a multi-cultural environment.

 Languages

An intermediate level of fluency in English, both oral and written, is required. Applicant should have a B1+ or above level of English, as determined by the Council of Europe Framework of Reference (CEFR).

English + Activity

This course combines English Language study with Queenstown adventure activities. Students study part time on our General English morning course and participate in their elected activities in the afternoon. Activities are scheduled in the afternoons according to weather conditions. Examples of activities include: Jet Boating, Horse Riding, Golf,  Mountain Biking, Queenstown Attractions, 4WD Trips, Winery Tours,Ski-ing/Snowboarding, Fishing, Bungy Jumping and much more…

3 hours English tuition and 3 hours Ski/Snowboarding all in one day!

Course Price includes: English Lessons Monday – Friday, return bus transfer from ABC College to Coronet Peak (25 min drive), afternoon Lift Pass and ABC College of English representative as a co-ordinator / first day guide.

Optional extras:  Ski or Snowboard lessons (Group or Private lessons are available for all levels), Equipment hire (Skis / Snowboard, Boots, Clothing etc.) ABC College of English staff are able to assist students in arranging equipment hire and ski/snowboard lessons and bookings can be made at the college.There is also ski/snowboard storage facility at the college.

On the English + Golf course students study General English Part Time in the morning and play golf 3 afternoons per week at either Kelvin Heights Golf Course or Frankton Golf Course.

Course Price includes: English Lessons, Green fees, Return transport to Kelvin Heights or Frankton Golf Course. Half Club set, Golf balls, Tees, Practice on the driving range and Check-in assistance on the first day.

Young at Heart

ABC College of English 50+ programme offers the opportunity to learn English, experience New Zealand’s spectacular natural scenery and New Zealand’s culture.  This special programme combines a morning programme of Communicative General English lessons with a variety of afternoon cultural and sightseeing activities such as vineyard and winery visits, nature walks, golf/yoga and local activities.

Our Communicative General English Course provides the opportunity to learn conversational English as used in a variety of everyday situations encountered when travelling.  Participants will be able to learn in a relaxed, enjoyable and non-threatening environment.  With our experienced teachers the pace and content of the lessons are tailored to suit the individual needs and interests of the class.

Ski/Snowboard Instructor Licence Preparation

English Preparation course for NZSIA Ski/Snowboard Instructor examinations.
This is a course specifically designed to prepare candidates for the Technical Ski/Snowboard English component of the NZSIA (New Zealand Ski/Snowboard Instructors Alliance) Instructor Examinations. The course focuses on the essential elements of English that candidates require for the Ski/Snowboard Instructors Examinations.

Please note: these are English Courses designed to prepare students for the English component of the NZSIA Examinations. The course does not include Ski / Snowboarding lessons. We can arrange Ski / Snowboard Lessons (Group or Private) at Coronet Peak as an optional extra.

Candidates for the NZSIA Examinations must register for the examination independently. Details of the examination dates can be found on the NZSIA website www.nzsia.net. For candidates who wish to take the examination at Coronet Peak we advise early registration. Coronet Peak is only a 20-25 minute drive from ABC College of English.
